FROM STAR WARS TO SCARLETT
I just finished the drapery gown from Gone With the Wind. I love it and can’t wait to wear it!

It’s done! I’ve always loved this dress. I guess I can appreciate Scarlett’s craftiness by making a dress out of curtains. This is the dress from Gone With The Wind that Scarlett makes out of Miss. Ellen’s drapes to convince Captain Butler to give her money for taxes. Something I’m sure everyone can relate to. You can see pictures of this dress from the movie here.

After months of searching for the perfect velveteen-like fabric, the dress was created in about 2 weekends. I used over 30 yards of fabric. The most yardage i’ve ever used in a dress. You can view more construction details on my Pattern Review page.

The hat is my favorite part! It’s just fun. I have to add my turkey foot and feathers. The dress from the movie used a chicken foot, but I couldn’t find one. I think the turkey foot is close enough.

I got lucky on the curtain tiebacks (the rope trim). Green/gold tiebacks are impossible to find even on the internet but I found these on sale at Associate Salvage in Nashville. They are slightly smaller than the rope used on the movie gown, but for the price they work great.

More pics to come later. Still have to hem it and add turkey foot and feathers.
